Best Time to Ride a Motorcycle in Morocco: A Month-by-Month Guide

The best time to ride a motorcycle in Morocco is from September to May, with spring (March to May) and autumn (October to November) the sweet spots. Summer is too hot inland for comfortable riding, and in mid-winter the High Atlas passes can be cold and occasionally snowy.

The real answer depends on where you want to ride. In a single tour you can go from 2,000-metre mountain passes to the edge of the Sahara to the Atlantic coast, and each has its own best season.

Month by month

Month High Atlas Sahara and the south Atlantic coast Verdict
January Cold, snow possible on high passes Sunny days, cold nights Mild Good for desert and coast
February Cold mornings, clear skies Pleasant days Mild Good; almond blossom in the Anti-Atlas
March Green valleys, cool Warm, ideal Mild Excellent
April Ideal Warm, occasional wind Pleasant Excellent
May Ideal Getting hot by late May Pleasant Very good
June Warm Very hot Pleasant Coast and mountains only
July–August Hot Extreme heat Warm, busy Not recommended
September Warm Still hot early in the month Pleasant Good from mid-month
October Ideal Warm, ideal Pleasant Excellent
November Crisp, clear Ideal Mild Excellent
December Cold, snow possible Sunny days, cold nights Mild Good; festive departures

Spring (March to May): the classic season

Spring is when the Atlas turns green, the rivers are running and the desert is warm but not yet punishing. It is the most popular time for European riders escaping the end of winter, so dates fill early. Book by the end of the previous year if you want a specific departure.

Autumn (October to November): our favourite

After the summer heat breaks, Morocco settles into long, clear, golden days. The light is superb for photos and the roads are quieter than in spring. Mid-September can still be hot in the south, so we lean our autumn tours towards October and November.

Winter (December to February): sun when Europe is grey

Winter riding in Morocco is a real option, and many of our guests come precisely because their own bikes are in the garage. Days are usually dry and sunny. The trade-offs: shorter days, cold early starts, and the chance of snow closing a high pass for a day or two. Our guides plan alternative routes for exactly that. Bring heated or layered kit for the mountains.

Late January to February is also almond-blossom season around Tafraoute in the Anti-Atlas, which features on our Trails of the Sahara and Beyond and Moroccan Dreams tours.

Summer (June to August): why we mostly stay home

Inland temperatures in southern Morocco regularly pass 40°C in high summer. That is uncomfortable in riding gear and hard on riders and bikes alike. We run only a few early-summer departures and no guided tours in July and August.

Riding during Ramadan

In 2027, Ramadan is expected to begin around 8 February and end around 9 March, subject to the official moon sighting. Riding in Morocco during Ramadan is perfectly possible. Some roadside cafés close during the day and towns are quiet until sunset, then come alive after iftar. Our guides plan lunch and fuel stops around it, and hotels serve meals as normal.
