TRAILS OF THE SAHARA AND BEYOND: THE ULTIMATE MOROCCAN OFF-ROAD ADVENTURE

This is a trip for those in search of a real adventure. We’ll venture to the less explored side of Morocco, heading south from Marrakech we’ll ride the `tizi n’Test pass in the Atlas and cross the Anti-Atlas through the canyon road, to reach the Sahara. We’ll ride plenty of desert pistes, heading west to the Atlantic coast, to ride on the famous Plage Blanche and then head north towards Essaouira on stunning coastal roads and dirt tracks.
On the way, we’ll have everything and adventure bike ride is about: mountain passes with breathtaking views, twisty canyon roads, empty desert landscapes and pistes that will require constant concentration as the terrain often changes from gravel tracks to sandy sections. We’ll experience the unique beach ride across the Plage Blanche with sand dunes to the right and the Atlantic to our left. We’ll pass chilled surfing spots on the way and ride stunning coastal trails before heading back towards Marrakech.
to offer some respite during this challenging trip, we’ll spend a well deserved rest day at the coast.

Day 1 : Arrival
Arrival to Marrakesh. Transfer to your hotel, where you will be able to settle in and relax by the pool to prepare for your trip the next morning. You will meet the team and the rest of the tour group and go through a welcome briefing, and you will receive your welcome pack.

Day 2: Marrakech – Taroudant (approx. 230km)
You will be transferred to our premises for the bike hand-over and a short daily briefing before the start of the trip. The first riding day will already provide plenty of joy on our motorbikes. We will cross the Atlas through the famous Tizi n’Test pass towards Taroudant for our first overnight stay. The road will be fantastic and challenging at places, full of twists, turns, and switchbacks, with a mix of gravel, broken tarmac and smooth fresh asphalt, climbing over 2,000 metres before descending towards our fantastic lodging for the night and a city visit before dinner.

Day 3: Taroudant – Icht (approx. 260km)
We will head south from Taroudant towards Tafraoute and its famous painted rocks for a picknick lunch at this fabulous spot. We’ll then spend the afternoon riding south through the canyon roads of the Anti-Atlas, with a mix of narrow roads, stunning views, twisty descents and climbs in and out of the valleys, before reaching our destination in the desert.

Day 4: Icht – Guelmim (approx. 260km)
Another great day on the bikes, where daily temperatures will likely add to the challenge of the ride. Crossing some famous rally tracks and hitting the pavement from time to time, the ever-changing surface will test your concentration levels. We will ride flowing gravel tracks, rocky sections and the inevitable desert dans on the big bikes, before heading to Guelmim for the night.

Day 5: Guelmim – Agadir (approx. 270km)
A day most riders are looking forward to. We’ll head south, out of the city, before turning towards the coast and head to the famous Plage Blanche to experience beach riding that will bring back memories of the old Paris-Dakar race. We’ll make our way north on the coast and cross the dynamic traffic of Agadir to reach our sublime beach resort, which will be our base for two nights.

Day 6: Rest day
An opportunity to relax and take in the experience of the last days. You can enjoy a relaxing day, chilling on the beach, sipping on drinks at the beach bar, or alternatively, we can organise a ride to paradise valley for those in need of more mileage.

Day 7: Agadir – Essaouira (approx. 260km)
Another sublime day on the bikes. We will start off with plenty of twisties and amazing landscapes on the coast, before taking on rocky narrow single trails, large twisty gravel roads and a constant smile on our faces as we try to take in the scenery while riding the constantly changing terrain. We’ll cross some laid-back surf spots and small villages and will have a relaxed lunch at Sidi Kaouki. The last section is up for debate, as you can either get the big boys’ pants on and tackle the sand dunes or opt for a less challenging ride to the city of Essaouira. The old Portugues fort and the vibrant medina is definitely worth a visit, along with one of the rooftop spots for a nice sunset view and a couple of drinks.

Day 8: Essaouira – Marrakech (approx. 220km)
On our last day we’ll ride back to Marrakech. Most of the day will be a mix of rocky terrain, hard packed dirt tracks and the occasional tricky narrow riverbeds as we head back towards Marrakech.
Upon our arrival to the city, we will refuel the bikes and get to our workshop to return the bikes and you will be transferred to the hotel for a well-deserved rest, before heading out for our farewell dinner.

Day 9: Departure
Depending on your flight time, you might take the opportunity to relax or visit the city before the arranged pick-up takes you to the airport.

I recently completed the Wheels of Morocco Challenging Roads tour, and it was absolutely amazing. I had been looking at this ride for a while, and I am so glad I finally did it.
The bikes, route choices, scenery, accommodation, and food were way better than I expected (and I already expected it to be very good). Greg, Abdou, and Amine totally looked after us. They were all highly knowledgeable about the route and took the time to discuss the local history and culture.
Greg started every day with a group discussion about the daily ride and was very honest about any technical difficulties. There was always an alternative option for those who decided a route might be beyond their abilities. I have been riding for almost fifty years but learnt so much on this tour. Also if Greg gives riding advice, it pays to listen.
The ride is exactly as described, challenging but well worth doing if you have the experience. We were fortunate enough to ride through a sandstorm in the desert and the thickest mist I have ever seen during an already technically challenging section in the Atlas Mountains. Both of these were major highlights and probably the best riding experiences of my life.
I highly recommend this ride and WOM. I will definitely be booking another tour with these guys!

Great experience! The name of the trip is undoubtedly correct; Challenging Roads all the way!
Greg, Abdou and Amine were great! Their experience and knowledge of the routes are amazing, so their tips and recommendations were always spot on.
They were always available to help, but also kept pushing us to be up to our game.
They will not pamper you, so you have to be sure you’re experienced enough for this.
Real off road experience is a must, and you should also be comfortable with traffic riding as well as narrow and twisty roads.
This is not a relaxing scenery viewing tour, it’s a challenge to your riding skills.
Finally, a great camaraderie was developed amongst the group.

The Challenging Roads tour was certainly challenging!
It's a great off road focused tour with some of the best roading riding you'll ever do thrown in to give you a break from the punishing dirt sections.
This was my second trip with WoM and as before the booking process was very professional (thanks Viki).
Greg, Abdou and Amine take care of you when your out on tour. Amine was driving the much needed support truck and keeping us hydrated, Abdou is always around when you fall off to help you get going again and Greg leads a fast paced tour, kicking your ass when you need to man up in the desert!
Accommodation was great with some really interesting hotels and luxurious tents. Food is good and plentiful as are the boot beers.
Day 3 was a 180km ride across the Sahara and it was the most memorable ride of my life. It's punishing and feels like it's never going to end but the sense of achievement at the end will stay with me forever.

I’ve just come back from a week on the ‘Challenging Roads’ tour with Greg, Abdou and Amine and I cannot recommend this team highly enough. Very slick and well-organised, superb choices of accommodation and brilliant selection of routes, both on-road and off-road trails. Viki did a great job with getting everyone prepped and the hard back-office work making it such a smooth experience all-round.
Certainly not one for beginners, I’d recommend some real-world off-road experience before you tackle this but would absolutely go again given the chance!

Left my soul in Morocco.........
Had an absolute ball, Fun Safe and challenging all at once, Abdoul is a great rider and knows the roads very well and leads the pack, and we always had the rest of the team in the pick up bringing up the rear, fully equipped with all the spares you will need and carrying the luggage too. Stayed in some really nice and really authentic hotels, food was great, did ache after the first day, but by the end of the second day I just wanted to live for riding.... Would do it again in a heart beat, really good mix of people as well which made it very interesting.

But so rewarding and amazing. Whether the dunes, gravel tracks, mountain dirt roads or tarmac, it was all great. An excellent company to take you on a Moroccan adventure, Greg and his lads were superb leaders, bikes were in tip top condition.  I’m a life long rider and thought I’d seen it all,  however the roads tracks and scenery was amazing
The accommodation was more than I expected.  I really can’t say enough about them,  I will definitely return for another tour.  The chosen routes were both challenging and with stunning views,  good long rides but also decent breaks and photo opportunities.

I just wrapped the Challenging Off-road Tour and had a great time (the desert camp was my personal highlight!). Fleet of premium adv bikes in excellent condition, knowledgeable guides, and very well researched routes. Specific kudos to local guides/riders/drivers Ucef and Amine who were patient and easygoing, even when the terrain and conditions got tough. By March 2019 Atlas and Desert tour what was my first motorcycle tour out of Europe - to be honest, I was very happy to make it with Greg as I was not ready at all to make something as this on my own.

In Feb 2021 we tried Challenging roads were all kind of surface, all kind of weather are coming together and creating a lot of fun in any situation. Truly tuff tour but as well one of the most beautiful offering fantastic desert scenarios.

Finally in November 2022 I went for Atlas offroad tour - nearly as beautiful and challenging as previous tour, however the scenarios of the landscape from 3000m are just wonderful (you really feel as to be on the top of the world).

In general many thanks to Greg, Abdul and Viki for all what they do - it always feel as coming back to see the old friends :-)

The trip was well planned and well supported by the team leading the expedition with recovery vehicle, tools and spares for any unforeseen mishaps. The motorcycles were all new and in excellent condition. All accommodations were most likely the most luxurious that could be found in each place we stopped, with the occasional spas and with fantastic food.  Verified Spectacular Motorbiking in magnificent Morocco
The 7 day Challenging Roads tour is spectacular in every way. You will experience incredible scenery in the Atlas mountains, on and off road and in the Sahara desert. Through WOM careful planning, you get to experience every type of terrain under your two wheels, it's breathtaking, occasionally challenging and always rewarding. I only had limited off road experience, but was well looked after throughout, including the wonderful Gio & Abdoul in the service back up vehicle. The overall service provided by WOM, including amazing accommodation every night is exceptional. It's a tour that will take your riding experience to new levels in an environment where the people, the bikes, the scenery and company are all first class.  Verified Magnificient Morocco
This was the seven day riding Challenging Roads / Off Road Adventure tour. It really was a fantastic mix of tracks, piste, tarmac and of course Saharan sand. My BMW 1200GS was clearly well maintained and coped with all the conditions that I threw at it - what a bike ! Our leader Greg had clearly expertly planned the routes to give us the best possible mix of riding experience, and more importantly a chance to enjoy the incredible changes in scenery that this beautiful country provides. The highlight was the magical night Glamping in the Sahara desert. The hotels were all excellent, and the food delicious. Despite fairly limited Off Road experience, I always felt in safe hands, with the brilliant Abdou following us in a backup vehicle. He was endlessly patient and nothing was too much trouble. This was a wonderful adventure which I shared with a fantastic group of riders - I definitely want to go back for more. Greg took hundreds of photos during the tour which we could all download afterwards to keep the memories alive. Thanks to all the team at Wheels of Morocco.

Morocco, Challenging Roads Tour. 19.02.2022.-26.02.2022 I was on a seven-day tour by the Wheels of Morocco. The first meeting was in Marrakech. The bikes (BMW R1200 GS ) were in excellent condition. The choice of the tour route proved that we are guided by a professional tour guide. The accommodation was very high quality in every town. I had an experience of a lifetime. I will never forget.  Verified A Real Memory Maker
The whole gang at Wheels Of Morocco (Victoria, Greg, Amine & Abdou) really made our Challenging Roads tour a trip to remember, ( and no doubt book again on!) The tour lasted 10 days and allowed us to experience the true Morocco, away from the hustle and bustle of the cities, right through the high atlas, cutting across part of the Sahara desert and exploring the endless windy roads of Agadir. The list goes on! I would definitely recommend November as a month to visit Morocco on a bike as the weather is beautiful and manageable with temperatures which peaked around 24 degrees. There’s no doubt Greg has put a lot of time and effort in place to work on mapping out a fantastic itinerary with great accommodation and places for lunch. for those thrill seekers like me who want to venture off the beaten track and go explore in 2 wheels, then look no further. This is a real adventure and if you do book on the challenging roads tour, be sure to leave your flip flops at home and remind Greg you’re on Holiday 😉

I just came back from eight wonderful days of challenging roads in Morocco
It was just amazing,!!!! everything right from the very beginning , my first email to Greg and Viki to find out details about the trip which was answered quickly and professionally and later every question, request or desire of mine was received with understanding and a great desire to help as much as possible so I could feel comfortable
And that was just the opening, from the moment I met Greg, Abdul and Amin in Morocco, I discovered an excellent, professional and reliable team who took care of every detail during the eight days of the trip.
Starting with the motorcycles that were in excellent mechanical condition and it was clear that they were well taken care of, the basic organization of each and every day of the trip, the break point, the meals, the great hotels and even the concern for photographing the riders at all times
Greg's statement throughout the trip that this is our adventure took on a new meaning when one of the riders asked for an adjustment in the program for him, all without compromising the experience of the other riders and this is important and most noteworthy. And definitely not obvious !!!
In addition to Greg it is worth mentioning the helpful, abdul and reliable team members who were just great, helped, assisted and were an important and positive addition to the trip itself!

Just back from the "Challenging Roads" tour with Greg as the guide. I couldn't recommend Wheels of Morocco highly enough, from the pre trip communication with Viki to the actually tour. Greg runs a great show and I will be back again. Bikes were great, hotels excellent, roads/tracks amazing at times and Abdul was a great support man. Just finished 1 month in Morocco (Marrakesh). I picked up a BMW 1250GS (Wheels of Morroco’s) with 3949km on the clock and returned with 9085. Total is 5136km / 3192 miles or just over 125 miles a day. That may not seem like much but check out the attached Big Bikes Little Goat Trail video. I took 3 tours, the Challenging Roads tour pushed me passed my comfort zone, thus ADVENTURE ! Riding part of the old Paris-Dakar track on big trail bikes... Through the desert, in the middle of nowhere 👊 OMG, deep sand on a 1250GS is so much fun but watch out for that Camel Grass and remember keep your head up focusing on future pathways. Now the views are great, check the photos. Here are my recommendations- BESTS. Best Rides: OMG so many great BESTS to list, Tarmac- Up COL Du TICHKA pass from Marrakesh day 1 Challenging Roads Caution the clouds/fog can almost cover the road. Adventure- crossing desert to Foum Zguid day 3 Challenging Roads, Coolest- to Taourirt day 4 Challenging Roads, Best Hotel- El Malara thanks to Bernadette & Jean, Best Tour Guide- Greg Fatrai, Greg specks many languages including Arabic, French, English, Hungarian and can cuss in many more 😉 and oh yes he can ride ! Best Support Team Lead- Abdou he can be hard on equipment and yes he did help me pick up my bike in the sand. Best Tour Rider- Brett M., Tour Jester- TDB but Gandalf is running in first place. If your truly looking for a Moto Adventure you have to consider this one.
