  • Tour Date: 31 July-13 August 2020

Day 1 : Arrival

MUNICH – The last day of July is set for the arrival. The hotel is located near the Olympiapark in Munich. We recommend an early arrival so you have plenty of time to settle in and have a walk or visit the BMW Welt and/or the BMW Museum. We’ll go out for a group dinner around 7 pm.

Day 2 : MUNICH (DE) – ZERNEZ (CH) : APPROX 280KM

We will meet in front of the hotel and head to our partner’s location to pick up the motorcycles – if you need a rental bike, before hitting the road. We will negotiate the traffic to get out of town and head south, through some of the best roads in Bavaria. Our first coffee break will in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, home of the yearly BMW Motorrad Days, before heading into Austria and taking on our first of many alpine passes on this tour. Our ride will take us through Austria in a southern direction on small, winding roads and stunning scenery. We will ride some more switchbacks right before entering Switzerland, where we will ride along the Inn river all the way to our destination.

Day 3: ZERNEZ (CH) – LIVIGNO (IT) : APPROX 310KM

Today things get real. After the warm-up of day 1, which saw us riding through winding roads, sleepy villages, idyllic alpine backdrops, we start the roller-coaster ride of the alpine passes. We have 7 passes for this day, full of twists and turns, with an average altitude over 2,200m above sea level, so you will be dizzy by the evening. We will spend the night in Livigno, a duty free paradise for some, but mainly known for its fantastic skiing and year-long outdoor activities.

Day 4: LIVIGNO (IT) – BOLZANO (IT) : APPROX 200KM

Another day in paradise – for those who love twisties and winding roads at least. We start off through the pass towards Bormio for our first coffee of the day, before heading up one of the highlights for every biker riding the Alps – the Stelvio pass, peaking at 2760m. We will have plenty of time playing around and have a quick lunch at the top (weather permitting), before starting our descent, which will be equally fun. The afternoon will see us ride the small country roads in Italy and we will have two more passes to tackle before reaching Bolzano, where we will spend the night and our rest day tomorrow.

Day 5: BOLZANO (IT) : REST DAY

Plenty of time to take in the experience of the last days and plenty of things to see in Bolzano also. Those who prefer more action, a short ride to the Jaufenpass is also possible. This twisty paradise is truly a heaven for motorcycle riders.

Day 6: BOLZANO (IT) – KÖTSCHACH (AT) : APPROX 275KM

Another fun day in the saddle. We tackle the Dolomites and will ride through sublime backdrops, stunning sceneries and of course amazing roads, full of twists and turns. We will cross 7 of the most stunning passes in the region, with an average altitude above 2,070m.
We will finally cross back to Austria where we will spend the night in a nice village.

Day 7: KÖTSCHACH (AT) – FELD AM SEE (AT) : APPROX 310KM

The fun and hunt for the perfect line through the apex continues. We first head north and will ride the Grosslockner High Alpine road. We will of course take the time for the detours to Edelweisspitze and the Franz Ferdinand viewpoint for a coffee and snack opposite the glacier. We then ride the smaller national roads through beautiful countryside to head south again and tackle the Nockalmstrasse that will leave us dizzy by the time we get to our hotel near the lake.

Day 8: FELD AM SEE (AT) – VELDEN AM WÖRTHERSEE (AT) : APPROX 196KM

More passes and more corners for today. By this time, everyone got surely used to the lack of straight roads. We will head south to Italy, before passing to Slovenia through some great hidden passes. We will make a detour to the Mangart saddle to admire the stunning views, before heading back down for a wonderful ride along the Soča river. We then take on the fantastic Vršič pass with its many cobblestone switchbacks, before passing by the WW2 tank on the roadside on the Würzenpass and head to our accommodation for the night, back in Austria.

Day 9: VELDEN AM WÖRTHERSEE (AT) – VIENNA (AT) : APPROX 340KM

A long day in the saddle, though nice country roads and great scenery throughout our ride. We will ride the Klippitztörl and Semmering passes and our route will go through plenty of twists and turn, while the changing landscape will keep your eyes entertained.
We will spend the night in Vienna, where we will also have the whole of tomorrow to relax and enjoy this great city. Vienna has all to offer. From great walks to tourist attractions, shopping, culture and entertainment.

Day 10: VIENNA (AT) : REST DAY

A great day to relax, or to take on this great city. Vienna is a pearl and everyone will find something to look at or visit. Home to Mozart, Beethoven, Freud, Hunderstwasser, location of imperial palaces like the Schönbrunn – the Habsburgs’ summer residence, the city has a cultural and historic heritage. Plenty of museums, gardens, shopping streets or the banks of the Danube will make for a good time out. If you feel more lazy, you can rent a small moped or an electric scooter, which will save you time and make moving around more comfy. Vienna also boosts a great public transport so getting around should not be an issue.

Day 11: VIENNA (AT) – CESKE BUDEJOVICE (CZ): APPROX 250KM

Back in the saddle after some rest. We will head north on small roads, enjoying the beautiful countryside and hilly sections towards country number 6 on the trip: the Czech Republic.
We will ride small and winding roads and will stop in the beautiful medieval city of Cesky Krumlov for a walk. Our destination for the day is the home of the famous Budwar beer, which you will surely want to taste before, during or after dinner.

Day 12: CESKE BUDEJOVICE (CZ) – BERCHTESGADEN (DE) : APPROX 240KM

Hopefully not too hangover from the beer tasting, we will hop on the bikes and head back towards Germany for a glimpse of world history. We will spend our day riding the small and winding roads of Czech Republic, Austria and Germany. Although not the high Alps, this region has plenty to offer in terms of enjoyable ride. We pass through the Vyšši Brod pass and Gschütt pass for some more twisty fun. We will spend the night near Berchtesgaden, the location of the famous Eagle’s Nest – Hitler’s fortified stronghold.

Day 13: BERCHTESGADEN (DE) – MUNICH (DE) : APPROX 150KM

We will start our day with a visit of the Eagle’s nest. Unfortunately, the nice twisties to the top cannot be ridden so we will be taken there by bus. We will have time to walk around and grab a snack and coffee, before returning to our bikes.
We will ride back to Munich on through parts of the Bavarian Alps, including some of the great passes, then the country roads of Bavaria and along the Chiemsee.
We will return the bikes, before getting our transport back to the hotel. Surely a lot of great memories and moments to discuss over our farewell dinner.
